About The Alliance
The Alliance, which was founded in 1982, empowers victims beyond domestic and sexual violence. It provides advocacy to adult and child victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in Chaffee and Western Fremont Counties. All advocacy services are confidential, free of charge and include the following:
- Short-Term, Emergency Safe Housing
- Emergency Financial Assistance
- Peer Counseling
- Youth Program
- Resources and Referrals
- Weekly Support Groups for Women and Children
- Court Advocacy and Court Watch
- 24-Hour Crisis line
- Educational Outreach Program
Victims living in rural communities face additional barriers when attempting to leave an abusive relationship. Lack of resources, lack of anonymity, isolation, and social stigmas are all factors that make leaving difficult. In addition, victims are at a much higher risk of being hurt or killed when they decide to leave an abusive relationship. Support services and access to resources are crucial.
The Alliance started the Crest Crank in 1998 and has led mountain bikers on the Monarch Crest Trail every year since then. The Monarch Crest Crank raises vital funds that enable The Alliance to help victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault in Chaffee County. The Alliance is also funded by Federal, State and foundation grants, local agencies, other fundraisers and private donations.
